Girls Inc. of Tarrant County is excited to announce the establishment of the Joy Thomas Memorial Scholarship Fund honoring a bright and compassionate leader in the Fort Worth community. From her nationally recognized achievements in high school and university, to her lifetime commitment to mentoring young Black women, Joy Thomas personified the Girls Inc. core mission of inspiring girls to be Strong, Smart, and Bold.
Joy’s passion for helping others was clearly demonstrated in her legal practice where she specialized in Social Security and Family Law, as well as in her continued work as an advisor for her Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Joy’s former classmates Zohra Choudhry, MD and Stephanie Hassler Jeffers have established this fund with Girls Inc. of Tarrant County to honor her memory. Though she never married or had children, Joy’s legacy will live on through her work as a selfless civil servant. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who demonstrates the qualities that Joy Thomas continuously exhibited, those of integrity, achievement, and leadership.
