Sponsor Spotlight: Lockheed Martin

Our event sponsors are essential partners in helping us launch the annual College Shower, a joyous occasion where community members join us in celebrating graduating Girls Inc. high school seniors and “shower” them with gifts to support them in their post-graduation journey. This year’s Senior Sponsor, Lockheed Martin, has consistently supported Girls Inc. through sponsorships, volunteering, employee giving, and more. For the 2021 College Shower, they have decided to go above and beyond by buying laptops for ALL of our participating seniors. We are so grateful for this generous support of our girls and spoke with Lockheed Martin employee, Liz Lutz, to hear more about what drives the company to be in Girls Inc.’s corner.

Q: How long has Lockheed Martin been involved in Girls Inc.’s College Shower?
A: Lockheed Martin began support of the Girls Inc. College Shower in 2018 and since 2019 we’ve proudly provided funds to ensure the girls have new laptops as they head to college.

Q: What draws Lockheed Martin to support girls through this event?
A: By showering these students with essential items and laptops, we’re helping to level the playing field and ease the financial burden on their families.

Q: How does your company collaborate with its employees to participate in the shower?
A: Lockheed Martin is passionate about cultivating tomorrow’s STEM leaders. We are honored to sponsor graduating Girls Inc. students who will pursue STEM degrees and have teams of Lockheed Martin volunteers who help shop for their must-have school supplies and dorm essentials.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about this year’s event?
A: Learning more about the girls and their interests, as well as sharing in their enthusiasm for what’s to come. Our volunteers often comment that the girls’ excitement reminds them why they originally made the decision to pursue a STEM career.

Q: Why is it important for Lockheed Martin to support girls through this event?
A: Lockheed Martin’s approach to strengthening the STEM pipeline is multi-faceted and includes partnerships with organizations like Girls Inc. of Tarrant County that encourages young women to explore STEM as a rewarding career. Through this partnership we are looking to nurture and support girls as they take the next steps to pursue STEM careers. Additionally, the program provides unique opportunities for our employees to serve as mentors and role models for traditionally underrepresented students.
